Patient Testimonial

From David B.
After a bout of prostatitis I visited Dr. Colton who prescribed a course of antibiotics and had me return for a PSA blood test several weeks later. My PSA was 4.5 and a biopsy was recommended. No cancer was found but there were atypical cells, a repeat biopsy was recommended and it did disclose cancer in one of the tissue samples

I was out of town I when learned the result of the second biopsy in a phone call from Dr. Colton. He anticipated my initial fears and gently explained to me the slow growing nature of my disease and that there was no need to make a hasty decision.

On Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving he spoke to my wife and me for about 2 hours in his office, after regular hours. He explained all the available options and also explained he would continue to care for me as his patient regardless of any treatment choice I made, even if I decided to use another surgeon, he in fact offered the names of several other surgeons I might refer to.

I had done some research prior to our consultation and with the help of my family became convinced to have a radical prostatectomy. I was pleased to learn Dr. Colton was utilizing the most modern technique to perform the procedure, namely robotic laparoscopic prostatectomy with the Da Vinci robotic surgical system.

Dr. Colton had begun doing this procedure a year earlier and had recruited Dr. Zimmerman as an associate. Dr. Zimmerman has had several years experience with the Da Vinci system and over 200 procedures. Both Surgeons would be performing my procedure; I was convinced I would be in good hands.

My surgery was January 19th and I went home the next day. I did have an unanticipated complication, one of the instruments inserted through my abdominal wall had nicked a blood vessel and I had lost some blood that pooled beneath the skin on the right side of my waist. At Dr. Colton's direction I had a blood test taken that showed lowered blood hemoglobin so I visited the hospital to have a CT scan to confirm there was no active bleeding. The attention Dr. Colton paid to this situation was outstanding and he was quite concerned that there was any additional inconvenience to me.

My recovery was rapid, typical of the robotic assisted procedure. I was driving in a few days and returned to all of my normal activities in less then 4 weeks. The pathology report showed my cancer was confined to the prostate and there were no positive margins after the surgery, the best possible outcome!

I cannot stress enough my satisfaction with Drs. Colton and Zimmerman and all the staff of Morris Urology, I feel as if they cared for me as a family member. I would highly recommend Dr. Colton to anyone with prostate cancer.
